Science & Technology Ecosystem Analysis Model (STEAM)

STEAM is an in-house developed tool that analyses millions of pieces of public academic research to identify trends. The tool was built under a requirement from the NATO Science and Technology Organization (STO), the world's largest collaborative research forum in the field of defence and security, with the aim to support the Chief Scientist's annual technology trends assessment to the North Atlantic Council.

STEAM can be used by analysts to explore multiple data sources related to technology trends around the world. By monitoring emerging and disruptive technologies through STEAM, the Chief Scientist Officer gets a better understanding and analysis of the key challenges and their implications for NATO. This tool will also drive the decision making of technology scientists while planning future activities with nations.

NCIA supports CIS collective defence capabilities during Steadfast Cobalt 26 Alpha

From 7 to 30 April 2026, the first execution phase, known as Alpha, of Steadfast Cobalt 26 took place across 35 locations. Approximately 700 participants from 34 NATO Entities across 14 Allied Nations took part, demonstrating NATO’s commitment to collective defence and enhanced communication interoperability across all domains.
