Ballistic Missile Defence

The proliferation of ballistic missiles poses an increasing threat to NATO populations, territory and forces. NATO Ballistic Missile Defence (NATO BMD) is one of the Alliance's permanent missions, as a component of the NATO Integrated Air and Missile Defence (IAMD) framework.

NCIA delivers the software that NATO needs to protect NATO European populations, territories and forces against a ballistic missile threat or attack.

Through its Ballistic Missile Defence Programme Office, NCIA enables NATO Nations to act as one when responding to missile threat or attacks, in a quick and coordinated manner, through the critical NATO battle management command and control technology. This includes intelligence capabilities that enable the interoperability between NATO BMD C2 and national Sensors and Shooters.

The Ballistic Missile Defence Operations Cell (BMDOC), is located at NATO's Allied Air Command in Ramstein, Germany. The team monitors all BMD systems 24/7 to protect European NATO territory, populations and forces. They use the battle management command and control communications and intelligence systems provided by NCIA to do so.
