NCIA supports one of NATO’s most complex exercises this year, Steadfast Deterrence 25

From 19 to 28 May 2025, Exercise Steadfast Deterrence took place across six NATO Allied Nations. Bringing together around 2000 participants from 18 Allies, this command post and computer-assisted exercise strengthens NATO’s deterrence at the operational and strategic levels, focusing on readiness in the Euro-Atlantic region.

Directed by the Joint Warfare Centre (JWC), Steadfast Deterrence 2025 marks the first exercise that trains and certifies Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) as a NATO strategic warfighting headquarters. This development is crucial in building NATO’s warfighting readiness and collective defence, while adapting to the evolving security and technological landscape.

The NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) provided communication and information systems (CIS) support for static exercise locations. This contribution included core services and cross-domain capabilities to ensure all participants had consistent access to communication services, enabling collaboration and collective strength. As NATO's cyber defender and technological hub, NCIA secured the operational network and devices, by providing cyberspace defence.

“Steadfast Deterrence 25 showcased NCIA’s ability to deliver secure, resilient, and interoperable communications at scale,” said Marcin Kutynia, Exercise Planner at NCIA. “Our support enabled operational cohesion across multiple NATO commands, ensuring that strategic readiness is not just a goal, but a reality.”

NCIA’s support throughout the exercise demonstrates its unwavering commitment to facilitate NATO operations and missions, as well as the dedication to strengthen NATO’s collective defence and deterrence posture. Steadfast Deterrence reinforces the transatlantic security bond, with forces converging from both sides of the Atlantic to train cohesively.
