For more than 25 years, CWIX has driven interoperability forward, offering a collaborative environment where Allied Nations and Partners can strengthen their ability to operate together, defend, and deter as a collective force. The NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) plays a central role in making this possible.
This year, over 150 NCIA experts, and engineers deliver core communications and information systems (CIS) assets. Their contributions span from interoperability planning and interoperability assurance, to networking and software engineering and operational analysis. The NCIA team is embedded with the operational teams, working directly alongside the warfighters, ensuring operational requirements are met, and enhancing the readiness and resilience of fielded C2 systems.

“CWIX arguably offers the most effective environment for de-risking C2 capabilities and enhancing our readiness for NATO missions.” stated Alberto Perez Veiga, Senior Engineer at NCIA’s C2 Centre. “The NCIA team is extremely proud to contribute annually to CWIX and play a vital role in shaping the future of the Alliance.”
In particular, the NCIA’s CIS Support Unit based in Bydgoszcz, plays a critical role, integrating digital environment and ensuring interoperability among exercise participants. The team provides essential on-site service desk functions and multi-level technical support throughout the exercise.
Additionally, NCIA delivers and maintains the classified network, underpinning CWIX, to directly federate the main exercise location in Poland with 14 Nations throughout Europe. This allowed Ukraine, as a Partner Nation, to participate in the exercise for the first time.
CWIX continues to strengthen Allies and Partners’ federated interoperability and multi-domain readiness, contributing to NATO’s digital transformation. By improving cross-domain exchange of information, NATO commanders have better situational awareness, thus enhancing critical decision-making.
For NCIA, CWIX represents a premier opportunity to strengthen the Alliance by collaborating with experts, engineers and operators from NATO Nations, Partners and industry to unlock new levels of digital interoperability for NATO.
