NCIA highlights software, AI and data sharing initiatives at TIDE Sprint 2026

From 4 to 8 May 2026, experts from the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) participated in TIDE Sprint 2026, hosted by NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) in Istanbul, Türkiye. The event brought together military operators, engineers, scientists, industry and academics to accelerate interoperability, digital transformation and operational innovation across the Alliance.

The Technology for Information, Decision, and Execution Superiority Sprint (TIDE Sprint), one of NATO’s premier interoperability events, enables Allies and Partner Nations to rapidly evolve concepts, standards and technologies that strengthen Command and Control (C2) capabilities and integration. The event is part of a broader Interoperability Continuum, enabling NATO and partners to integrate interoperability from the earliest stages of capability development.

This year’s edition focused on Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence (AI), with a programme of workshops, interactive sessions and deep dives examining how emerging technologies can support future NATO operations.

During the event, experts from across NCIA presented the NATO Software Factory (NSF), an in-house developed capability to enable rapid innovation, highlighting how the capability enables rapid software development, integration and delivery of mission-ready capabilities to the warfigther, while supporting practical AI implementation.

Together with ACT and the NATO Cyber Digital Transformation (CDT) branch, NCIA presented the Alliance Data Sharing Ecosystem, focusing on secure data sharing, data governance and data exploitation to support multi-domain operations and AI enabled capabilities. "It was a privilege to discuss how the Alliance Data Sharing Ecosystem can enable Multi-Domain Operations," stated Eren Turunc, Senior Data Engineer. "But what made it truly valuable was the conversation that followed, with industry partners, Nations, academia and NATO colleagues, all bringing their perspectives on AI and Digital Transformation to the table."

The Agency also contributed to discussions on interoperability assurance, introducing a new assurance and data evaluation framework designed to provide structured insights from events and exercises. The framework will support digital capabilities and services interoperability, providing decision-makers with greater understanding of how to improve their effectiveness.

As NATO’s technology and cyber capability hub, NCIA enables NATO to fulfil its mission by providing digital solutions and resilient communication and information services that ensure seamless connectivity among Allied and Partner Nations. Working hand in hand with industry, NCIA’s Technology Strategy outlines a strategic vision for harnessing the rapid adoption of technology, including AI to drive innovation across NATO. TIDE Sprint is precisely the kind of forum where that vision takes shape – bringing together the expertise, partnerships, and operational insight needed to turn strategy into capability.
