NCIA empowers NATO interoperability and Multi Domain Operations, at CWIX

For NATO, interoperability encompasses more than compatible software or using the same equipment, it requires aligned training, procedures and operational practices across Allied Nations and Partners to ensure collective military effectiveness and cohesiveness.

The annual Coalition Warrior Interoperability eXploration, eXperimentation, eXamination eXercise (CWIX) is NATO’s largest interoperability event and provides a platform for Allies and Partners to test, verify and improve the interoperability of command and control and information technology services and ultimately accelerate the delivery of Multi Domain Operations-enabled warfighting capabilities.

This year edition took place from 8 to 26 June 2026, at the Joint Force Training Centre (JFTC) in Bydgoszcz, Poland. Executed by Allied Command Transformation, the exercise brought together nearly 4,000 participating operators, engineers and specialists from over 41 Allied and Partner Nations.

Approximately 120 NCIA personnel from across the Agency supported the execution of CWIX, leveraging 62 NCIA systems to establish the classified network, test interoperability and implement communication and information systems (CIS) tools and systems.

Altogether, NCIA’s efforts ensured a stable, secure and effective environment for conducting more than 25,000 interoperability tests across 20 focus areas and all five operational domains, thereby contributing significantly to the overall success of the exercise.

The exercise also saw support from NCIA leadership. General Manager Dr Dylan Browne and Chief of Staff Major General Krzysztof Kociuba, attended the Distinguished Visitors Day, and had observed first hand interoperability testing activities and met with representatives from Allied and Partner Nations, as well as other NATO leaders.
