NCIA Chief Technology Officer participates in Munich Security Conference Cybersecurity Roundtable


On 16 October 2024, NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) Chief Technology Officer, Antonio Calderon, attended a European Cybersecurity Roundtable in Brussels, Belgium, organized by the Munich Security Conference.


The event brought together a specialist group of high-ranking decision makers, technology sector representatives, civil society organizations, and other technology experts from all across Europe to discuss key digital and cyber issues.

The first discussion was centred on how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be responsibly and securely integrated into defence capabilities in Europe. AI is a force multiplier for the Alliance and through its dedicated Data Science and AI team, NCIA provides capabilities, tools and expertise to the NATO community, enabling a better access to large volumes of information and analysis, supporting better situational awareness and decision-making processes. NATO is fully committed to the responsible and legal integration of AI into military systems.

The second discussion focused on the future of European cybersecurity in the second half of the European Union’s proclaimed “Digital Decade.” NCIA is engaged in supporting NATO-EU co-operation. In the field of cybersecurity, the Agency is working closely with the Computer Security Incident Response Team EU and The European Union Agency for Cybersecurity.
