NATO Software Factory revalidated as trusted platform for secure digital delivery

In February 2026, NATO renewed the security accreditation of the NATO Software Factory (NSF), reinforcing its role as a secure, collaborative cloud environment to accelerate NATO’s digital transformation. Granted by the NATO Communication and Information Systems and Security Accreditation Board, the renewal confirms the NATO Software Factory’s continued compliance with NATO’s highest security standards, building on its initial accreditation in 2022.

The NATO Software Factory was developed in-house by the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) Chief Technology Office to enable rapid innovation, integration and delivery of mission-ready capabilities to the warfighter. Today, the platform supports more than 200 application teams and over 3500 users, offering a standardized environment to secure, build, test, migrate and deliver applications.

The accreditation renewal comes at a time when NATO continues to scale up its cloud-enabled services and digital capabilities with the support of NCIA. Through the NATO Software Factory, the Alliance can leverage innovation and close collaboration with Allies, and partners from industry and academia.

“Over the past years, the NATO Software Factory has become a foundational capability in NATO’s cloud adoption and digital transformation” explains Mariano Valle, Head of the Chief Technology Office Cloud Centre of Excellence. “This security accreditation renewal marks reaffirms the trust placed in the platform and highlights the value it delivers to the Alliance.”

On 19 March 2026, a ceremony took place at NATO Headquarters to recognize the milestone. The event was attended by NCIA General Manager, Dr Dylan Browne, NATO Assistant Secretary General (ASG) for Cyber and Digital Transformation (CDT), Jean Charles Ellermann-Kingombe, and the Director of the NATO Office of Security (NOS). ASG CDT described the achievement as an “extraordinary win in NATO’s digital transformation,” stating that “the NATO Software Factory is at the heart of our efforts in enabling both secure and resilient digital transformation and the result of great team work between NCIA, CDT, NOS and the Joint Intelligence and Security Division.”

By collaborating closely with industry partners, NCIA offers a variety of key capabilities to advance the digital solutions and services supporting the Alliance and ensures NATO maintains a technological and competitive advantage.
