Digital Transformation

The environment in which we operate is constantly changing. Our needs as an organization evolve rapidly in light with the changing nature of security threats, and the developments in the world of technology. The Alliance's continued political and military success and its ability to fulfil its core tasks increasingly relies on the timely adoption of digital technologies.

NCIA is responsible for helping NATO through this transformation and it does so by delivering and ensuring the successful adoption of cutting-edge technologies that enable NATO's ability to adapt swiftly to evolving global challenges, while helping Nations to communicate with each other, work together, and build resilience. We do so by:

  • Enabling a data-driven organization that leverages data as a strategic asset by promoting data-centric architectures and technologies, including advanced analytics, big data technologies, artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions, which will improve NATO-wide access to data, develop automation, increase information advantage and support timely decision-making.
  • Fostering technologies supporting end-to-end digital services, data protection, and enhanced interoperability across the Alliance.
  • Modernising the NATO Digital Backbone by connecting sensors, effectors and deciders across military and political domains, including Allies and Partners, by fostering technology for the adoption of cloud, supporting pro-active and reactive cyber-security.
  • Enabling new paradigms such as data-centric security and zero-trust networks to support the readiness of cloud for NATO capabilities through the integration of cloud commercial services with edge computing to create a resilient, scalable, secure and interdependent ICT service continuum, underpinned by a common technology architecture, recognised standards and cost-efficient sourcing strategy.
