On 29 and 30 May 2024, the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) attended and participated in the Cybersec Europe 2024 conference, in Brussels, Belgium.

Cybersec Europe facilitates a platform for experienced cyber security experts and next generation start-ups to share knowledge with peers in order to jointly face cyber security challenges. Senior Security Architect, Claudio Solano, from NCIA's Chief Technology Office (CTO) gave a presentation on the NATO Headquarters IT governance case. With more than 20 years of experience in information communication technology and security governance, Solano's insights shed light on the critical aspects of cyber security in today's ever evolving landscape. He underscored the importance of understanding complex cyber threats, leveraging emerging technologies and embracing collaboration within NATO but also with industry, not-for-profit organizations and academia.

"As the digital landscape evolves, so must the strategies and policies governing IT and cyber security. Finding the right balance between business needs, operations, and security is key to effective governance," said Claudio Solano. "We cannot address all aspects of cyber security alone, so it is crucial to work together in developing a comprehensive defence strategy enabled through an appropriate governance model that fully supports and further enhances the business objectives."

Cyber-attacks are an ever growing threat in today's tech environment, and it is important for NATO to work with industry to enhance cyber resilience and stay at the forefront of cyber security. As NATO's cyber defenders, NCIA delivers secure information technology and communications and information systems support to ensure a resilient environment. NCIA experts monitor and protect NATO networks around the clock and help Allies enhance their national cyber resilience through political consultation, collective action, and education and training.
