I learned about the position of Senior Scientist (Information Assurance) through a friend who already worked at the Agency. My position was originally located in The Hague and I applied for three main reasons; because of the talent of the people I knew who were already employed at the Agency, because I was excited about the expatriate experience and because the opportunities and challenges offered by the position were both ambitious and coherent in my career.
On joining the Agency, the welcome was warm and I knew immediately that I was in the right place but that I would have to work hard to keep up with the pace. In addition to recognised skills and experience, a Senior Scientist should have a customer focus, be solution orientated and have a "can do" attitude in order to make the most of the working environment.
I mainly work as a Subject Matter Expert in Cyber Defence using my technical knowledge and operational experience to do both problem-solving and coordination. I directly contribute to the delivery of projects according to NATO best interest.
My colleagues are highly-skilled and experienced experts in their field. They work hard and there is a friendly team spirit which creates an inspiring work environment. The best thing about working at the Agency is the people with whom you have the chance to work. That is the most enriching part of this adventure and it spans beyond your professional life.
