NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg marked the start of this week’s meeting of Defence Ministers on Wednesday (14 February 2018).

I expect we will agree to establish two new Commands,” he said: “one for the Atlantic, and a support command for military mobility within Europe.”

Ministers are also expected to agree to begin planning for a NATO training mission in Iraq, in response to a request from the Iraqi government and the Global Coalition. Defence Ministers will also review progress on defence spending and burden-sharing, and discuss NATO-EU cooperation.
