Innovation is key to the work of the C3 capability delivery. In 2011 the first quarterly Technology Watch programme was launched, in which invited speakers from industry provide briefings to staff on emerging technologies in areas such as cloud computing, service orientated architectures, green IT and social computing. Internally, initiatives CTO has sort to encourage staff to pitch offer proposals for internal funding to investigate novel ideas which have included investigating multi-touch interfaces, applications of motion-tracking gaming interfaces and approaches for more agile IT acquisition.
Industry Participation should ideally be at the level of Chief Architect, an individual who is able to explain the company’s capabilities in the relevant topic through a presentation lasting no more than 30 minutes. In addition, or alternatively, industry participation may be through a poster stand allowing more in-depth Q&A with NCI Agency staff. The events will be rounded off with a Panel discussion, and industry representatives who wish to join the Panel should indicate so in their response to this invitation to participate.
The NCI Agency hosted a very successful Military use of Social Technologies TechWatch Day to which industry was invited to present their Social Technology solutions.
The TechWatch Day on Military use of Social Technologies was intended as a forum for the industry and NCI Agency to discuss current and forthcoming technological developments in the area of Social Technologies, and exchange knowledge on industry best practice and specific NATO requirements. Of particular interest is how these developments may pertain to NATO as a military alliance.
The internal focus of the Day was for educating and inspiring NCI Agency staff about new concepts and technologies, in preparation for their engagement in relevant NATO projects. The primary audience for this particular TechWatch Day was NCI Agency scientific and engineering personnel who are or will be working on projects to develop services around social technologies for military use. Hence it was not intended to be a pre-sales or marketing event for industry and presentation proposals will be selected accordingly.
It is essential that NCI Agency keep abreast of the latest developments in Social Technologies.
