To help project managers deliver projects in a consistent and interoperable manner, a Technical Directives initiative was launched. A key initial directive provides guidance on ten fundamental design principles that should underpin every C3 related project we deliver. Other work focused on developing a joint vision on Testing in Operational Theatres, on establishing a strategy for the development of software within the Agency and on establishing the core suite of Agency tools that can be offered to nations.
The Technical Directive (soon to be published) in the series to come is the NATO C4ISR System Design Principles which has as purpose to “… establish – based on existing NATO Policies and directives – a minimum set of system design principles that current capabilities should strive to evolve to, and new developments must comply with to facilitate the seamless sharing of information and services within the Alliance Consultation, Command and Control (C3) and Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) system environment to meet the Alliance’s requirements.”
