The Chief Technology Office (Capability Development, CTO) is pleased to announce the next TechWatch Day focusing on Green IT for NCI Ageny staff. The event will take place on Wednesday 12 September 2012 in the Main Conference Room in The Hague, with VMR connections to as many other NCI Agency locations as possible. CTO is also investigating other web-technology possibilities as to make this as much of a learning and knowledge-sharing event as possible.
The event is open to NCI Agency staff. Industry interested in participating in future TechWatch days, should contact the NCI Agency CTO office.
For the purpose of the TechWatch Day, Green IT is intended to; cover all aspects of the CIT systems' life cycle, from manufacturing, through commissioning and operation, and finally disposal.Green IT should not be seen as just being about energy consumption in the data centre, it is also about the environmental impacts of the manufacture of the IT equipment, the use of IT systems outside the data centre, including the reduction of the need for printers and printing. It is about sourcing components and systems that are manufactured in a way that minimises environmental impact and that can be disposed of in environmentally responsible ways. It touches all aspects of IT that have an impact on the environment.The Green IT TechWatch Day is intended as a learning, collaboration and connection forum for Industry and NCI Agency to discuss current and forthcoming technological developments in the area of Green IT, and exchange knowledge on industry best practices and specific NATO requirements. Of particular interest is how these developments may pertain to NATO as a military alliance.
