On 3 and 4 July, NCIA joined the 12th South-East Europe Clearinghouse (SEEC) Conference “Regional Cooperation in the Western Balkans - Smart Defence and Pooling & Sharing” in Skopje.
The South East Europe Clearinghouse (SEEC) initiative is a multinational defence forum for debates and exchange of information on bilateral and multilateral programs for security cooperation with NATO and Partnership for Peace (PfP) Countries. The conference, co-chaired by the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia* and Norway, was attended by representatives of Albania, Austria Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Denmark, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Kosovo, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Switzerland, USA and NATO.
The conference aimed to facilitate sharing views and ideas in the field of regional cooperation, taking into consideration Smart Defence and its application in the region.
“
The Smart Defence concept represents an excellent opportunity in achieving better security with limited defence resources
” said Petar Esmerov, State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence.
Cdr. Amleto Gabellone, NCIA representative, provided a presentation on the Agency multinational development programme to support Smart Defence in a regional context, focusing on South-Eastern Europe region and addressing the BRAAD (Balkan Regional Approach to Air Defence) case. He highlighted the role of NCIA as a powerful platform for capability development – one NATO team in approaching common, multinational and national targets - in the framework of the NATO Defence Planning Process.
